dc.descriptionThe increasing expectations of life when someone is born provokes more importance to attending old–timers odontologically in contemporaneus society. The prevailing paradigm until recently showed us that as someone grew older there was more risk of complete edentulos status. Whereas preventive odontology reinforces itself both in academical development and in practice, it didn´t have a great impact in the improvement of odontological health in people until recently. Some of the factors affecting this situation are economical, cultural and social which prevent access to dentistry. Overdentures keep their prevalence. As human beings live longer and keep their teeth until old age, overdentures are still very important as a rehabilitating therapy tending to avoid total edentulous condition.es_ES
dc.description.abstractLa creciente expectativa de vida al nacer, hace que adquiera más importancia la atención odontológica del anciano en la sociedad contemporánea. El paradigma vigente hasta hace algunos años mostraba que a mayor envejecimiento existía más riesgo de edentación total. Mientras la odontología preventiva toma más fuerza tanto en su desarrollo académico como en su práctica, hasta hace poco tiempo no parecía tener impacto en la mejoría de la salud odontológica de la población. Algunos factores influyen como son los factores económicos, culturales y sociales que dificultan el acceso a la odontología. Las sobredentaduras conservan su vigencia. A medida que los individuos viven más y llegan con más dientes a la ancianidad, las sobredentaduras siguen jugando un papel importantísimo como terapia rehabilitadora tendiente a evitar el edentulismo total.es_ES
