dc.descriptionThe issue of extraction - non-extraction in orthodontics has always been very controversial, from the Angle years to the late nineteenth century, the first orthodontists adopted as an article of faith, the idea that every individual had the potential capacity of an ideal relationship of the 32 natural teeth and, therefore, extraction was never necessary for orthodontic reasons. At the same time these concepts did not have a general acceptance. Calvin Case, Angle's great professional rival, argued that although it was always possible to expand the arches to align the teeth, neither aesthetics nor long-term stability would be satisfactory in many patients.es_ES
dc.description.abstractEl tema de extracción - no extracción en ortodoncia siempre ha sido muy controversial, desde los años de Angle a finales del siglo XIX, los primeros ortodoncistas adoptaron como articulo de fe, la idea de que todo individuo tenía la capacidad potencial de una relación ideal de los 32 dientes naturales y, por consiguiente, nunca fue necesaria la extracción por razones ortodóncicas. En la misma época estos conceptos no tuvieron una aceptación general.
