Resumen : Algunas de las actividades que realiza el odontólogo es el tratamiento de la caries dental y la enfermedad periodontal, diversos investigadores coinciden en las reacciones y daños que se presentan en el períodonto ante una restauración defectuosa. El presente estudio muestran los daños que se presentan en la población yucateca, quienes acuden a buscar solución a su problema dental y su tratamiento resulta el desencadenante de una lesión posterior. Sirva éste para concienciar al práctico general la minuciosidad en la realización del tratamiento de lesiones cariosas. Este estudio fue observacional, transversal y descriptivo. Se realizó con 478 pacientes de uno u otro genero que acudieron por primera vez a la Clínica Numero cuatro de la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán, durante el periodo de octubre 1999 a mayo de 2000. A los alumnos de Odontología Integral en el Adulto II que realizaban ahí sus practicas se les adiestró para la selección de los pacientes, los que debían tener restauraciones de clase II, cuya edad estuviera entre 15 y 40 años y que poseyeran dentición completa, para determinar la frecuencia de lesiones del tejido periodontal asociadas con restauraciones dentales defectuosas.
Descripción : Some of the activities performed by the dentist is the treatment of dental caries and periodontal disease, various researchers agree on the reactions and damages that occur in the periododonto to a defective restoration. The present study shows the damages that occur in the Yucatan population, who come to seek a solution to their dental problem and its treatment is the trigger for a subsequent injury. This serves to make the general practitioner aware of the thoroughness in the treatment of carious lesions. This study was observational, transversal and descriptive. It was carried out with 478 patients of one or the other gender who attended for the first time the Clínica Numero cuatro of the Faculty of Dentistry of the Autonomous University of Yucatan, during the period from October 1999 to May 2000. The students of Integral Dentistry in Adult II who carried out their practices there were trained for the selection of patients, those who had to have class II restorations, whose age was between 15 and 40 years and who had complete dentition, to determine the frequency of periodontal tissue lesions associated with defective dental restorations.
