Resumen : La sutura media palatina se ha descrito como un tipo de sutura de extremo a extremo que presenta cambios morfológicos durante su desarrollo. El maxilar puede ser separado a través de ella en los casos en donde existe una deficiencia transversal del maxilar superior. Angell en 1860 fue el primero que habló de la separación de la sutura media palatina utilizando aparatos que conseguían ampliar el maxilar. Se ha discutido mucho acerca de si la edad y el sexo interfieren en la separación de los maxilares, por lo que el objetivo del estudio que se presenta es relacionar los estadios de maduración de la sutura media palatina con la edad y el sexo en una población nayarita.
Descripción : The midpalatal suture has been described as a type of end-to-end suture that presents morphological changes during its development. The maxilla can be separated through it in cases where there is a transverse deficiency of the upper maxilla. Angell in 1860 was the first to speak of the separation of the midpalatal suture using appliances that managed to enlarge the maxilla. There has been much discussion about whether age and sex interfere in the separation of the jaws, so the aim of the study presented is to relate the stages of maturation of the midpalatal suture with age and sex in a Nayarit population.
